Depending on whether we are fishing the Islands or offshore, tackle may vary.
Here are some basics.

Island Fishing:

It is a good idea to have a variety of rods ranging from a jig stick to light and heavy bait rods (20-40lb test line). Bring a variety of hooks and weights; hooks ranging from size 2-4 for small baits, size 2/0-7/0 for larger baits and squid, weights ranging in size from 1/4oz-3/4oz sliding sinkers and torpedo weights ranging from 2oz-10oz. It’s also a good idea to bring a wide variety of jigs both heavy and surface iron (Tady c, Tady 45, Salas 7x) Last but not least, a variety of leadheads for fishing with squid.

Offshore:

Here are some basics you will need for fishing offshore. You’ll want to bring a trolling rod (min. 60lb test) along with trolling feathers (blue/white, purple/white, Mexican flag or cedar plugs). You will also need a variety of rods ranging from a jig stick to light and heavy bait rods (20-60lb test line). Bring a variety of hooks ranging from size 2-4 for small baits, size 2/0-7/0 for larger baits. You may want to bring some rubber core sinkers from 1/4oz-1oz and some heavy jigs (Mega baits, Tady 9).

Rockfish:

For rockfish, you will need a good supply of heavy sinkers (6oz-12oz), several of each depending on conditions. “You will lose a few”. Bring hooks size 2/0-6/0, shrimp flies and heavy jigs. Bring a couple of heavier rods with 25-40lb test (spectra optional). You may want to bring a lighter outfit and some plastics for when we fish shallow water.
